Another change to the Building Code is coming, this time around the timing of the changes coming in.
I just want to talk about an update that MBIE have sent out this week in regards to the H1 changes. After consultation process, they’ve decided to push back the implementation date by six months. So rather than being implemented on the 2nd of November this year, they’ve decided to implement the changes in the 1st of May next year. The changes are in regards to building performance, so they’re increasing the requirements for ceiling, wall and floor insulation, HVAC systems and window performance. If you’re looking to build or looking to get consent underway, you now have until the first of May next year to build to the current code. Then the changes will come into play after that. With the the windows, they’re going to do a staged implementation. So over the course of the next year really, they’ll be going from where we’re at now, to the the new change. The other stuff is going to have a close-off date with it. I thought that would be useful information for everyone. Also we’re going to put up, there’s basically a table that shows that the changes. So if you’re in Christchurch, which we are, or Canterbury region, you’re in climate zone five. So you’ll be able to have a look at the table that we’re going to post up and just see what the changes mean for you. For us, wall insulation is not going to change, so be kinda normal 90mm stud it’s a R 2.0 requirement. But ceiling insulation is going to double, you now need a level of insulation to your foundation which is which is a big change down here. And then obviously your windows and your HVAV. So have a wee look at that and yeah just hopefully you find that the information useful. Cheers.
